The whole participation trophy thing in elementary is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. It doesn't prepare you for the real world at all. In life, you win some, but you lose more. Think about it, you go through life, you don't get the job you want or a job at all. You get rejected by the opposite sex. Sometimes you don't have enough money.
Sometimes you're life is great, you have the perfect job, perfect spouse, enough money for life. This is very rare. Imagine how life would be if everyone got a participation trophy for everything. You go to a job interview, a few weeks later they call you in and say, "Thanks for trying, here's your trophy". You get rejected by the opposite sex, "Nice try, here's your trophy". Life doesn't work that way.
If life worked that way, we wouldn't have anything. That means, no Super Bowls, no championships, no MVPs, no presidents, no promotions, no raises, no nothing. After winning a thirty mile race and everyone else dropped out, you're not the only person to get a first prize, everyone gets a first prize. That means you just wasted your time sprinting as fast as you could for thirty miles.
See, if everyone wins no one does. People who work hard to deserve first prizes shouldn't have to share them with the lazy people who didn't do anything to get there. By giving everyone trophies for not doing anything is pointless. It teaches kids nothing about life, what they see is if they do nothing they will get rewarded, but that isn't how life works.
